Special transport: A great challenge in the Swiss mountains to start the year!
Within the framework of the renovation project of the Gabi hydroelectric power station located on the Simplon Pass Road between Simplon Dorf (VS) and Gondo (VS), our road transport company was mandated by several companies to carry out the transport and installation of various voluminous parts.
A special transport of 35 tons
To access the power station, the truck had to reverse 600m, which required a lot of vigilance from our team. Once the arrival point was reached, there was very little space left between the vehicle, the transformer and the wall of rock.
We transported a transformer of about 35 tons. The main challenge in this operation was to place the part in the station, which required careful planning of the resources to be used in view of the space available. The execution phase went smoothly, and we were able to hand over a completely new transformer to the customer.

There is not much room left for lifting.

A special 115-tonne convoy
The second operation involved the transport of two generators, each of about 60 tones. These two exceptionally large pieces were stored in our halls in Tolochenaz and were therefore transported from our depot by truck. With a component height of approximately 3.4m, they had to be moved with ultra-low chassis in order to guarantee a road height of no more than 4.20m (height of the tunnel galleries on the Simplon rise).
For the last kilometer, it was necessary to transfer the generators by using a crane onto a more compact modular semi-trailer with greater ground clearance. This step was essential in order to successfully negotiate the inclines and slopes on the access road and the severe bends.
Thanks to our drivers and the performance of our specialized vehicles, the delivery of the 2 goods was completed in just half a day.

An extensive planning process
To organise this delivery from Tolochenaz to the Simplon Pass, it took one and a half years to develop and adapt the roads to accommodate exceptional convoys. Throughout the entire project, we assisted our clients in finding solutions for the various stages of the project. This was a major task that we were able to carry out successfully.
A second driver/trailer escort was needed to compensate for the steep gradient and the slopes. The steering of the trailer is done with a remote control by our escort.
We would like to express our gratitude to our customers for their trust in us.
We would also like to thank our partners Clausen Kran AG, Combe Driver Services and Fracht AG, without whom we would not have been able to carry out this project under such conditions.
This project demonstrates the know-how of Friderici Special and its committed and conscientious employees to meet the needs of its customers.
